Can't reccomend this one enough. Both protagonists are really fascinating and I feel particularly seen by Cilia. The structure is also really genius, gonna be thinking about this one for a while.

reading some natural history and y’know what? we have a lot of great words for “cave-dwelling animal.” troglomorph, stygofauna, hypogean, phreatobite, trogloxene, speleophile, so many more… I’m not sure we needed like 50 words for them but they’re all great so I don’t know which ones we would’ve cut

May Braum is a renowned biologist, specializing in the study of cavefish. She regularly comes to Howlin' Mountain due to the thermal spring-heated caverns that run deep beneath it, hoping to learn more of the stygofauna that resides there. Tends to enter brumation unknowingly.
