Literally the least important thing at the moment, but I was so excited to leave the subarctic temps of Iowa for Austin this weekend only to discover, Austin is also experiencing subarctic temps.

It's a mystery alright, why a country that is mostly subarctic might get fewer forest fires than a partly subtropical state. 👀
Trump: "The head of a country that lives in forest. A number of them, actually. Finland told me this. Austria told me this. The head of Austria, the head of Finland. And it was beautiful they way they expressed it. They said, 'We live in a forest. We are a forest nation.'"

Polar stratospheric clouds for several days in a row now here in the subarctic.
They are almost unbelievably beautiful but also linked to the destruction of the ozone layer.

Completely out of season in terms of pics, but this has always been one of my faves from the fall...a gorgeous porcupine on the subarctic tundra in Nunavik.

Finnish forest industry produces low value added bulk from biomass of endangered subarctic ecosystems that repair themselves very slowly.

And its dominant, near monopoly position hinders the development of alternative uses for what could be - for example - the best furniture wood on Earth.

Living in the subarctic forest has its downsides, but I just observed a lynx in my yard for ten minutes. It triggered our chicken coop's motion activated lamp, so I could see it clearly even though it's 5am. Such a majestic beast.

i love how in the 90s there would be like batman toys where he had all kinds of shit on him he never used in the tv show or movies. like what if batman had a big drill. what if he wore a suit specifically for hunting joker in a subarctic boreal forest

Subarctic polar fjord plunge in which I reveal that my gym selfies are mostly tricks of posing and lighting.

There was a 105 degree hot spring pool immediately out of frame with 20 people watching me be an idiot.

Shrubby cinquefoil (Rosaceae: Dasiphora fruticosa) is native to cool and subarctic regions of the northern hemisphere. It's cold-hardy, long-flowering, and low maintenance, making it popular for use in landscaping. Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North Dakota, 08 Aug 2014.

We watched the northern lights in the subarctic treeline last night. A truly beautiful space and the lights were amazing.

Another big consumer of the remaining real Finnish forests is cardboard for packaging Temu crap.

There are also multiple cases of even 300 year old trees being cut only to be burned by municipal energy companies.

And Finnish subarctic ecosystems repair themselves *veeeeery* slowly.

The problem with the kink community is I hate how they're characterized by their smaller legs in comparison to typical lizards and are found in different habitats except arctic and subarctic regions- Wait sorry I meant the SKINK community, sorry to any other lizard species I offended
