Not all fields. Before a large solar build near my home, the turf and topsoil were removed leaving just the bare subsoil. Proper greed

'The drought has been brutal for Hagen Hunt, Texas Corn Producers Association president, who farms in Hale and Swisher counties in northwest Texas… In 2011, it was very droughty, but the difference was that 2010 was one of the wettest years on record.'

Kazakhstan's gold mines and licenses surface on Threads with price tags up to $70 million
Gold exploration licenses and mining projects in Kazakhstan are increasingly appearing as listings on the social network Threads, with asking prices reaching $70 million. The trend follows record-high gold prices, turning the platform into an informal marketplace for subsoil use rights. From Low-End Licenses to Industrial Assets Current listings vary from simple exploration permits to fully equipped sites. Recent offers include: High-End Asset: An anonymous seller (a_latipov) is listing an operating gold mine with 9 tons of reserves for $70 million. The seller requires proof of funds before disclosing the location or details. Industrial Infrastructure: A project in the Kyzylorda region, listed by account geolog. a.expert, includes seven objects in one ore field. The asset features a camp for 150 people, a crushing complex, a 32 km power line, and preliminary installation of vat leaching equipment. Proven reserves (C1+C2) stand at 2,888.9 kg, with predicted resources (P1) estimated at 32.677 tons. Development Project: A project in the Abay region (near Semey) called Zhangiz-Tobe is available for either a 30% stake or a 100% buyout. The current holder claims 372 kg of proven reserves and 500 kg of predicted potential. The owner states that 200 million (currency not specified) has already been invested in drilling; he is now seeking 300 million to secure a mining license and a further 1 billion to launch production. Entry-Level Licenses: Other listings include a 600-hectare exploration project for 60 million tenge and various offers for "placer gold" prospecting across 11 regions. Status of Assets The majority of these offers are for exploration licenses rather than active production. While some sellers claim "ready-made assets," the evidence suggests most are in the prospecting or pre-production phase, requiring significant capital injection to move toward actual extraction.

This European opulence is literally scandalous, for it has been founded on slavery, it has been nourished with the blood of slaves and it comes directly from the soil and from the subsoil of that underdeveloped world.

Was just reading last night (Children of Ash and Elm) that York is important because the subsoil is so waterlogged that organics survive better than other locations. How archaeologists could walk through doors in basements from a thousand years ago because of the preservation. Hope to see this boot!

There's some interesting botany in the grounds of the Coddenham Community Centre - lots of chalky subsoil. (I think) from the foundations forming raised banks around the building - worth a look!

Agreed, non-zero is right. Subsoil carbon below 30cm can have residence times of centuries. The hard part is measuring small deep-soil changes against a large, variable background at field scale.

A proportion of the reduced carbon dioxide from our atmosphere that deep roots transfer down into the subsoil will never again enter our atmosphere. Modeling how much exactly would only be possible on a case-by-case basis with substantial uncertainty, but it won't be zero minus major disturbance.

The extension of ownership was required in 1964 because of imminent offshore oil and gas exploration. Hence the UK government took the seabed and the subsoil into ownership. Other countries did the same thing at the same time, notably Norway.

PS the Crown Estate ≠ the monarch. It is the Treasury.

Age of boiler & smoke alarms. Whether the loft is already boarded. What the depth of your loft insulation is. When the windows were last changed (i.e are the double glazed). Survey should show what the subsoil is & the likelihood of subsidence. I think you get a lot of things upfront in Scotland

that's sometimes used as fill, maybe excavation for some other purpose. Haven't found an air photo that sheds light on this. In any case the gardens seem to be doing fine on backfill or subsoil material with a little "topsoil" maybe spread over it.
