1965, Indonesia, the US collaborated with General Suharto to take over (following the assassination of the 6 military generals more senior than Suharto) and oust Sukarno, who was seen as pro China. Suharto then stepped up collaboration with US corporations to exploit Indonesia's natural resources.

One of the main pieces of evidence that the USA wasn’t directly involved in planning the events of 1965 in Indonesia is that many CIA officials routinely couldn’t tell Sukarno and Soeharto apart

For the love of God, we couped Indonesia because we decided Sukarno, a glorified social democrat, was a soviet puppet because his party was technically (as in, on paper) communist. We threw a multi-ethnic and religiously plural society into a genocide and dictatorship for half a century.
