If your navy is badly overstretched at 11 supercarriers, the question is not "how many more do we need?" it's "what the hell are we doing and how do we start calming things down?"

Just for sense of scale, current U.S. Navy op tempo would be properly supported by a fleet of somewhere between fifteen and eighteen supercarriers. The fleet has eleven. “Ridden hard and put away wet” doesn’t begin to cover it.
But there’s a difference between surface rust and structural rust. The United States Navy has many faults. One of them is how hard it’s forced to push the fleet. It’s easy to keep a ship looking parade-ready in port. That’s not what warships are for, and that’s not what the USN does.
