It’s one of my favourite churches…really worth a visit, it’s just gorgeous. There are several other gems in that vicinity too - worth doing a church crawl around Shelton (my other fave), Melchbourne, Yelden, Swineshead, to name a few 😊

Amazing news about Swineshead! The only known copy in Oxford, nisi fallor (as is certainly possible). Sharpe listed copies attested at Merton, Queen’s and Canterbury College – it’s not one of those by any chance, is it? In any case, I’d be grateful for a draft description, but only out of curiosity.

I don’t know why specifically, but I love it there. Let me know if you come down to do it. Although, when John Vigar and I arranged to meet at the church, he was in Swineshead in Lincolnshire and I was in the one in Bedfordshire 😱🤭

Another allegation (again not in Unruly) is that a monk at Swineshead Abbey dipped a poisonous toad in King John's ale.
