🎶 "Synesthesia"
🎤 Porcupine Tree
💿 Up the Downstair
📆 7 June 1993
Early albums didn't quite grab me as a whole, but “Synesthesia” stood out enough to earn its place here, making it the only pre-Signify track on this list.

Brang and Ramachandran have done some really great research on synesthesia, which was part of why I wanted to go to UCSD to begin with

Very sweet stuff makes a high pitched noise in my head. It’s either synesthesia or insanity. You be the judge.🙉🤪

me too! and shapes! I am always down to talk synesthesia! I participated in a bunch of studies about it years ago at UC San Diego and did my own research from a linguistic perspective - it has other known effects on your brain. I love it!

I am hesitant to call my thing synesthesia bc synesthesia is like "Monday is red," whereas my thing is like "Monday has an image in my head that only looks like itself."

#AwesomeCharacters
If a character is a main pov or in the story a lot, I try to give them names I find pleasant both in sound and appearance. I've mentioned before that I have a little synesthesia going on, and letters/words have "colors" to me, so the colors of the name have to fit the OC.

Do you save your favorite names for your major characters?
Have you ever shuffled a name you really like from a minor character to a major one so you can use it more prominently?

I've never heard of that before! Does it happen if you only eat a little? (of course we know you are a perfectly sane person, so it must be synesthesia.)

Yeah! It was meant to evoke sound-scent synesthesia, basically how the maker thought what the sound would be like as a smell
