Which characteristics of Clifton Webb and Marlo Brando would be combined to make this prize of a guy? The effete murderous elegance of Waldo Lydecker with the brutal sexuality of Stanley Kowalski? Cause, ew.

The idea to do a triple split screen was Stanley Donen's. He later used a split screen in #Indiscreet to bypass the Production Code to imply Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman are in the same bed together. #ItsAlwaysFairWeather #TCMParty

Even the Technicolor palette is noired. Mauve instead of hot pink, forest green instead of Kelly, neutrals in costume and background.

Cyd Charisse's green skirt in "Baby You Knock Me Out" is a miracle in engineering. When she's standing, it looks like a long pencil skirt, but then she starts dancing, and they've hidden a circle skirt's worth of dancing room in a little tuck in the back. I sew, trust me. #IAFW #TCMParty

And all set to the same kind of upbeat music. I could not love that analysis more if it brought me a giant plate of bacon in bed for my bday breakfast (which I am absolutely making Blake do, btw).

In some ways, you can look at #ItsAlwaysFairWeather as the noir sequel to the happy-go-lucky ‘On the Town.’ During the war, their shore leave is all high spirits. After the war, their return home is cloaked in disillusion, suspicion, corruption, self-loathing, alienation and shame. 🤷♂️ #TCMParty

#ItsAlwaysFairWeather is a film I have only come to love over time. First it was just the roller skate bit, but now it's the satire, the realistic relationships, the happy/sad ending, Situation-Wise, and of course, the immortal Dolores Gray devouring every minute she's on screen. #TCMParty
