When you need a very large blade/knife to make a giant pencil sharpener an old 10” table saw blade can be useful.

Actually for making tapered pins on the end of table legs that will fit into a mating hole.

An old 10” table saw circular saw blade cut into five pieces with an angle grinder. There is one large rectangular piece that will be turned into a cutting blade/knife similar but much larger than the knife in a hand plane.

The previous steel rectangle I created but cutting up a 10” circular saw blade now has a ground and sharpened 30 degree cutting edge on one end and is heavily clamped to a large beech block of wood with a tapered hole whose outer conical extent extends just above the top surface. The cutting blade is clamped and aligned so that inserting and turning a rounded table leg shaves the end producing a tapered pin. There is a collection of large shavings on the top of the block.
