As a fan of Subway Surfers, since I first played it when I was a kid, I decided to draw Tagbot, a robot from that game! I didn't draw the Sub Surf logo on his hat since it seemed pretty difficult for me to draw.

julia> Pkg.add("TagBot") # ???
I hacked together a pure #julialang (bare-bones) implementation of Julia's TagBot, and it seems to work! It takes advantage of the GitHub API (GitHub.jl) to find the merged PR for each version hash in the registry for a given package.
More to come in the new year!

What does this do that TagBot doesn't? For the most part we seem fine with TagBot/Registrator as the release process.

// dub-con implied (?) not my intention but ig it can be interpreted as such
Also also, i saw one of those “just the tip (it wasnt)” tags posted by that tagbot for a03 tags and i am foaming at the mouth cuz the brain worms are worming (and i dont have the physical capacity to write it lol)

The search API allows this implementation to avoid the “loop back” method that TagBot uses.
The #julialang implementation seems faster, and should produce fewer requests on GitHub’s servers. I think this is a useful starting point for more exploration in 2025!

I agree, TagBot & Registrator have everything we need. Release Please has the same features: GitHub releases, CHANGELOG generation, etc. I've come to really enjoy the "release train" strategy for Python/C++ projects I've worked on. I also like the integration with Conventional Commits.

The project is available on GitHub. It currently only supports registries which are hosted as GitHub projects, and which merge new versions with specific PR titles.

That’s why I stopped responding to the tagbot over there with sexy examples. It’s not my place to make that kind of decision about people’s art. I’m surprised people aren’t talking about this more
