Found a motherlode of half finished stuff and fancy watercolours tidying up the shed to get started on a Takayna painting so will probably delay getting started on the Takayna painting.

Witnessing Takayna/Tarkine is a rare privilege. After I press through metres of the dense, dry shrubs that skirt the forest floor, the rainforest quickly opens into a dewy landscape of verdant greens bathed in golden light. The ground is a ballroom floor, moist to the touch, carpeted in soft mosses and punctuated by broad myrtle trunks. Tiny ferns unfurl towards the canopy, where shafts of sunlight streak through the treetops. It is an overwhelmingly beautiful place.
In a world experiencing an increasingly rapid montage of alarming climate events caused by a warming planet, Tasmania’s Takayna presents an alternate world, one that is primal and untouched by the ravages of industrialisation.

this is such a beautiful piece about mushrooms in takayna but it’s just so curious that it doesn’t mention those trees and mushrooms and indeed whole ecosystems of takayna are currently completely unprotected and being destroyed by logging and mining 🍄☠️

this is such a beautiful piece about mushrooms in takayna but it’s just so curious that it doesn’t mention those trees and mushrooms and indeed whole ecosystems of takayna are currently completely unprotected and being destroyed by logging and mining 🍄☠️

Quite a big weekend what with the Takayna launch in naarm and then the launch of this fine compendium in Burnie. Might need a bit of a lie down before the point to pinnacle next week.

i made these little plates to test a surface decoration technique i saw from a polish potter for my pieces for the bob brown foundation art for takayna exhibition. inspired by and hoping to somehow capture the dreamy dappled light deep in the rainforest

was hoping to get a full day in the studio today - i have so much to do before the bbf art for takayna exhibition in june 😫 - but we have an unwell doodle who has turned into a velcro dog and must be touching me at all times

i decided to do the last plate in the blobby style like the other dappled light plates but in the colours of all the mushrooms i saw in takayna and it’s probs gonna be awful but it’s nice to just try something without overthinking it
