A nice illustration of the role that talking therapy can play. Making sense of the chaos that often exists in our minds. #clinicalpsychology #psychotherapy #talkinghelps

@drwilliamsharp.bsky.social The question of drugs versus psychotherapy is a long and complex one. It also is not a question that can be looked at on principle alone; money continues to drive what we, as a society, value and deem important.

Should psychologists participate in enhanced interrogation techniques was an interesting listen, and gave me a perspective I had never thought of before. It was interesting to see different scenarios in which psychology is used. @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social

I just read "What the Therapist Thinks About You" by Jan Hoffman and I found the information presented to be very interesting. (1/3)

The article, “What the Therapist Thinks About You,” was compelling. I found hearing about David Baldwin’s story and perspective through his therapist’s words to be heartwarming.

After reading "What the Therapist Thinks About You," I find that patients like Mr. Baldwin find it compelling to read therapist notes. In a way, this allows patients like him to be consciously aware of their diagnoses and behaviors in a positive way.

Mental health is a vital aspect of wellbeing, and seeking help or acknowledging struggles is a sign of strength, not weakness, and there is nothing to be ashamed of. There is support available you can contact your GP, or a charity like @sane.org.uk #talkinghelps #itsokaynottobeokay #mentalhealth 💜

Shedler’s paper highlights how manualized, evidence-based therapies often fall short in real-world practice. Patients’ lived experiences and the complexity of therapy cannot be easily standardized and placed into a manual that works for all. @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social #TalkingHelps #Psyc4666

I found it interesting that CBT and other manualized therapies are considered evidence based, but instead we learn evidence that demonstrates long-term improvement years after psychodynamic treatment concludes, unlike after CBT treatment concludes. #TalkingHelps #Psych4666

I found the article "What the Therapist Thinks About You" by Jan Hoffman interesting, but not compelling enough. While I recognize the benefits for certain patients, I think sharing access creates a standard where the notes become performative!

What can I talk about? This is something I get asked a lot in an initial session. The answer is anything that is making you feel unhappy, is challenging your daily life or past experiences that are troubling you. linktr.ee/vjmcounselling #onlinetherapist #talkinghelps #wellbeing #mentalhealth

Just watched 'The Case for Psychoanalysis (v4)' by Dr. John Thor Cornelius. He provides a clear evidence-focused case that psychodynamic/analytic therapy can produce deep, durable change that often continues after treatment ends. Great video! @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social #TalkingHelps #Psyc4666

Reading Zainab Iftikhar’s research on AI “therapists” is unsettling. If these systems simulate empathy without real understanding, are we prioritizing access over ethics? Mental health care isn’t something we can reduce to automation without real consequences.

During class yesterday, we went over presentations on therapy methods I found really interesting -- primarily as introductions/overviews of existential therapy and play therapy (very different from each other, which I found funny yet fitting).

John Cornelius contrasts symptom-focused therapies with depth-oriented approaches, raising an interesting discussion about relapse and lasting change rather than offering a one size fits all answer #TalkingHelps @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social

As someone who's education in research has focused on evidence and results, Shedler (2015) made me rethink what we think by "evidence". Are we measuring effectiveness or just what's easiest to manualize? #TalkingHelps @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social

Shedler's article, Where Is the Evidence for Evidence-Based Therapy?, was shocking. He shows how many control groups are essentially shams, often designed to fail. It made me realize how much the researcher matters. @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social #talkinghelps

It was interesting to read Jonathan Shedler's article, "Where is the Evidence for 'Evidence-Based' Therapy?" and Wright's "Computerised cognitive–behavioural therapy for depression in adolescents: feasibility results..." back-to-back this week.

Shedler(2015) emphasizes that symptom relief isn’t the whole story- psychodynamic therapy aims for deeper personality change and better functioning over time. These larger outcomes deserve more recognition within evidence-based practice. @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social #TalkingHelps

Shedler’s article, Where Is the Evidence for Evidence-Based Therapy?, dives into how many clinical trials eliminate participants due to outside factors, ultimately excluding real-world clients who could benefit from the treatment at hand. @drwilliamsharp.bsky.social #talkinghelps
