The aurora are caused by atoms in the atmosphere being excited by plasma bursts from the sun. Our magnetic field collects all of these particles in an oval around each pole. We were under the oval last week, so we could see the lights almost every night.

Tamaracks! Coniferous trees that lose their needles in the fall. Another one of nature’s gifts for the eyes in the fall months.

‘Isle of Spruce’

On a northern isle spruce and tamaracks dance, late summer brushstrokes blaze, wild and untamed.

‘Return to the Falls’

A piece inspired by a midnight adventure out to the falls. The sound of the waterfall, tamaracks in fall foliage, and the Aurora dancing above was spectacular.

Small stream just dried up; likely hasn't happened in ages.
Tamaracks are starting to die, in addition to beech trees.
Nova Scotia is dry as a popcorn fart in the desert.
Hauled water from a spring to keep shrubs, plants, and garden alive.
