Fun fact: The eruption of Mount Tambora also led to weather conditions across Europe that forced a group of young artists who were hanging out together to stay indoors one summer and into starting a writing contest and anyway, that's how Mary Shelley ended up writing Frankenstein

La gran erupción del Tambora en 1815 arrojó material que llegó hasta la estratosfera, a 40 km, produciendo el Año sin Verano en 1816, debido a que el material impedía la llegada de radiación solar.

On April 5th, 1815 the Dutch garrison in Jakarta was orderer to quarters because the sound of distant artillery fire was heard. It later became clear it was not artillery fire at all, it was the Eruption of Mount Tambora 1200 km away. The most powerful eruption in history.
