This evening. In the beginning of March. Tararuas covered in snow. Already.

The wife is going for a hike and asked if wanted to go.

Is there a cafe on top of the Tararuas?

There is a decent frosting of snow on the Tararuas this morning.

Luxon promises homeless people won't be moved on without somewhere to go. For instance, a park bench in Onehunga, or maybe a nice rocky outcropping in the Tararuas.

We’d been on the trail for nearly 8 hours the second day when this photo was snapped. An adventure into the hills is what my mate promised and delivered.

The Tararuas Pack can pack a punch but they are absolutely stunning!

Spring has sprung in #SunnyHorowhenua. The Mighty Tararuas are greening up nicely.

Some views are worth getting up for. Others are worth 4 hours of hiking, a night in a hut and then getting up for. This was one of those kind of views.

Ah Te Whanganui a Tara Wellington, you’re ending the week strong and beautifully so we might forgive you for how the week started!
Also, there’s snow on the Tararuas!

In their defense, as I age I find myself staring more and more over the strait at the Kaikouras and at the Tararuas over the Hutt like I'm Sophie in Howl's Moving Castle and the novelty's still there somehow

#nzpol hear me out, we can all apply for fast-track stuff at the URL given in the letter in here www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic... . Flatten the Tararuas. Eradicate the Kiwi. Mill all of Fiordland. You name it. Troll 'em

What I’m really worried about now is the Wairarapa, Eastbourne and Hutt Valley. It’s only just started raining properly heavily there (>20mm/hr in the Tararuas), and the rivers are already worryingly high.

Will this be the week the Government gives up on its counter-productive & self-defeating fiscal strategy of austerity? There's growing political stress around its strategy of reaching surplus in 2027/28 and reducing both size of Govt and debt/GDP under 30% of GDP. open.substack.com/pub/thekaka/...

You’re right! I realise now I’ve taken a photo of that exact sign, in the Tararuas, as well as a nice handdrawn job. I just think the fact they’re being deployed on possibly the most touristed walk in the country (Hooker Valley, Aoraki) is just extra beauty - plus language needed!
