Abdul El-Sayed: "This tariff war in Canada is insane. It makes zero sense. There is no economic reason why we are having a tariff war with our biggest trading partner. That has to end."

8/ Subpoena any company that has been slow to issue tariff refunds to small business owners. I bet they’ll get their checks a lot quicker!

STEPHEN MOORE: “.. One silver lining from election night? Free trade was the biggest winner. Voters hated tariff policies, especially in the South and in rural America.”

What the democrats can and should do when their majorities enter Congress:

1. Force Trump to stop his war with Iran through the War Powers Resolution of 1973.

2. Force Trump to end all his tariff wars by depriving him all all tariff powers.

Things the Dem Congress should do on day 1:

- restore USAID
- investigate DOGE
- pass guardrails against civilian data misuse
- revoke the AUMF
- revoke unilateral Presidential tariff authority
- public hearings investigating ICE

El-Sayed: "The first 3 things we have to do is end this war -- we need a war powers resolution that brings war-making capacity back to Congress -- number 2, ending this tariff regime & war against Canada, but number 3, stopping the nuclear bomb that's about to go off in our healthcare system ... "

The most direct way for Dems to "lower costs" with control of Congress is to eviscerate Trump's tariff authority. Tariffs are straightforward "costs"—taxes—imposed on Americans unilaterally by an economically illiterate wannabe autocrat. Taking away his tariff toys accomplishes many aims at once.
Americans made it clear: They want their elected leaders to lower costs and make life more affordable.

That’s what Democrats ran on, and that’s how we won across the country. Even Fox News agrees.

The "Liberation Day" tariff bonanza "isn’t just the biggest U.S. tariff hike in more than a century. It’s an attempt to build a new trade regime on the bedrock of his two basic policy fantasies."

We're browsing the archives for things to say goodbye to.
Trump Calls It Liberation. It’s Destruction.
The only thing we’re being liberated from is our prosperity.

This looks promising:
- name checked Canada, not just generic tariff issue
- listed it as a top priority. I saw another interview today where he listed it as #2 of three priorities he'll bring to the Senate.

Note the change here: "rust belt" Democrats used to be VERY pro-tariff.

I would like the new Congress to give Ukraine a blank check, please. And kill discretionary tariff powers of the President.
Foreign diplomats want a Democratic Congress to check Trump's foreign policy.

On their list: renewed support for Ukraine, tariff relief, more oversight of military action on Iran.

Some officials fear the election loss could push Trump harder on Iran or Cuba.-Politico

Costco has also poured tariff refunds back into the business, reducing the price of essential goods…..this is what legacy capitalism should look .

NEW YORK (AP) — A sell-off for AI stocks sends the S&P 500 down more than 4% to its worst day since Trump's tariff announcements in 2025.

They could hold the President accountable when he exceeds tariff authority.

BofA: Don’t expect tariff relief until at least 2029 despite the blue wave.

Congress has ceded trade policy to the executive, and a $2T deficit makes $310B in tariff revenue hard to forgo ($126B from Asia will likely stick).
