#techno-optimistic
Bluesky was started by techno-optimistic libertarians with roots in crypto and decentralised protocols, and they ended up acquiring a weird bastard audience of expats from Tumblr and Facebook that absolutely hates all that.
Bsky is so funny dude the administration genuinely fucking hates its users who genuinely fucking hate the administration but neither is willing to leave fucking boomer marriage website i cannot wait for social media to completely crash

Nice new study by Fabian Dablander @fdabl.bsky.social & colleagues

re *techno-optimist scientists*

Such scientists, "are substantially less likely to engage in civic climate action (23% lower) or make high-impact lifestyle changes (18% lower)."

I'm generally as techno-optimistic as they come, but adding millions of additional points of failure to our passenger air system is NOT happening.

Conversely, we have mostly automated conventional commercial flights and are making great progress on automated takeoffs and landings.

🌍 Tech optimism cools climate action

A survey of scientists in 115 countries found the most tech-optimistic were 23% less likely to protest or lobby on climate, and 18% less likely to make big lifestyle changes.

Dear @pik-potsdam.bsky.social, would you or your techno-optimistic boss Ottmar Edenhofer - who, fun fact, has blamed his own political failure on Greta Thunberg and the few anticapitalists in the climate movement - like to comment?

#AI | “Techno-optimistic promises attract us because they offer greatness without vulnerability. But greatness without vulnerability is not human. It is a characteristic proper only to machines.”

Techno-optimistic scientists reported less civic climate action.

Across all forms of civic engagement—especially signing petitions and participating in protests—techno-optimistic scientists were less likely to participate. On average, engagement was 23% lower.

my most techno-optimistic take is "if we work hard and believe in a more beautiful future, we can bring about the age of miracles". but i also think that the assholes who put us in this position where anything short of that ruins us, should no longer be allowed to do that sort of thing anymore
AI is now the biggest investment in all of US history as a percentage of GDP.

Datacenter construction is up, all other construction is down.

"AI Is Squeezing Out the Rest of the Stock Market," reported WSJ 2 days ago.

We basically bet the whole economy on the most optimistic visions panning out.
Part of why I don't like the AI-or-bust economy is the constant flopsweat of people on the news who say this HAS to work. Quit making everyone so anxious. Goddamn. If this is the next Google then why are you acting like this? I don't remember being told to buy an iPhone at gunpoint.

Techno-optimistic scientists also reported fewer high-impact lifestyle changes.

They were less likely to reduce flying or car use or adopt plant-rich diets. We found little difference for switching to EVs or renewable energy at home. On average, engagement in lifestyle changes was 18% lower.
