Denver had the big three, plus the regional PBS affiliate and a WGN affiliate. By the 80s there was a second, weaker, PBS station (UHF?) on Channel 12, which ran Teletunes — an hour and a half of music videos — one weekend morning. 90 minutes of free MTV!

As soon as you said Teletunes, I was transported back to my bedroom with my 13” TV. Strange how a feeling can rush back into your core. I loved those days.

Here in the 5280, the PBS station was awesome as a teen. Red Dwarf, Dr. Who, and their own version of MTv called Teletunes. I'm impressed you noticed the reference. I can remember the lyrics to a Twisted Sister song but can't figure out where I left my glasses.

Here in Colorado around the introduction of MTV and Cable Television, one of the local PBS channels changed my life forever. Teletunes was the underground version of MTV, showing music videos and Video Jockys that gave insight etc.

We never had cable, but we liked Teletunes on PBS12 better anyway!
It's vaguely familiar to me? Surely I saw it -- in 1986, I was addicted to Teletunes, Denver's (awesome) public television music video show, so surely? But what a swell surprise as you dug in! While writing, I found the Ani DiFranco interview I mention in my essay, which was really fun for me.

Was in my favorite record store yesterday and was sent back to 14/15yrs old,not in the awkward way, but in the I just discovered MTV and TeleTunes and it's sunday night and I'm listening to "London Calling" on KBCO with my headphones so my parents can't hear because I have school in the morning.
