One of the iron laws of NIMBYism is that all new housing (other than single-family subdivisions) is either "slave quarters"/"tenements" or "luxury housing" for rich people. Often both simultaneously.
This was my favorite part of @acbowen.bsky.social ‘s coverage of the ADU density bonus votes. Council staff were comparing these developments to “slave quarters” and he just interviewed someone that lived in one of these ADUs and they were like ‘I like it, it’s nice’ www.kpbs.org/news/politic...

i’ll be honest, i think equating land use reform with neoliberal deregulation and building code reform with tenements is a clear indication that the anti-YIMBYs are not particularly interested in solving the problem of high housing costs
