Funeral rites on Termag are very similar across the northern hemisphere: it’s important to wrap and mourn the corpse, so its spirit can begin the longest journey. There are songs and chants whether or not the mourners know the name of the deceased. Views of death are as varied as ours.

Welcome to a new week of #MayWorldbuilders! This week is about death in our fictional worlds. Today's q: what is the overall societal view of death? Is it always sad or tragic? Or do some people view it as a celebration of one's life? O rjust the continuation of a larger cycle?
MonthlyWorldbuilders prompts daily feed card #MayWorldbuilders Hosted by Kira of the Wind Week 4: Death 22. Is death seen as something always sad in your world? Or a celebration of one's life? The background is an altered/edited photo of the John Rylands library. There are many books on bookshelves and beautiful light coming from the windows above. The photo and editing were all done by real humans

Happy New Year, #WIPsnips!
Excerpt from "Mental Static," a Termag/Earth crossover story: Taylor saluted us, in the manner of equals, as he invited us into his quarters. "I'm glad to see you both," he said, and turned to me with a smile. "And even more glad, Rick sim Ansari, that you discovered your hidden Talent." Chari and I returned the salutes, but bowing with palm to forehead, acknowledging his higher rank. His own salute was a courtesy. "I had to clear the turmoil from my mind, noted Taylor," I replied. "But I admit, I surprised myself in the end." "Many of our youth with Talent surprise themselves as well. If they find a mentor, it benefits themselves and the nation." "And if they don't?" "An untrained Talent that tries to express itself often meet a bad end," Taylor sighed. "A few generations ago, some called them *accidental sorcerers*. Others called them *rogue mages*, although very few had criminal intent. Still, the innocent often met the same messy end as the true rogues."

I really need to get back on this Termag/Earth crossover story, because it just got more relevant to reality.

From my #WIP "Mental Static," a Termag/Earth crossover story. #WIPSnips
After dessert, drinks, and toasts, Chari walked me back to my bunk. "That was a pleasant surprise, Rick sim Ansari," she said as we walked. "Not only Taylor's announcement, but your support." "Hoy, I meant it all. Hackney is probably right up there with you, but I never met her until yesterday." "So you have known me a few hours longer?" "You got me there," I laughed. "Is there a wife at home you wish to return to?" "Nar, nar. My parents, and especially my grandparents, are trying to find me a nice Turkish girl to marry." I realized *Turkish* went through untranslated. That made sense. "So are all Easterners Turkish in your world?" "Nar. Among what you call Easterners on our world, there are at least four major religions, and I couldn't even begin to count the number of languages. That's true of all our races, to be honest."
