Correct. If the birthdate field contains corrupt or mismatched data, it defaults to 1875-05-20, which serves as a flag. May 20, 1875, is the day the international standards and metrics treaty was signed. Everything is a conspiracy when you don’t know how anything works.

ONLY YOU can prevent DATA CENTERS 🔥🔥🔥 / BILLIONAIRES

AI automation =/= AI generation. the scripts to automatically transcribe voice to text or whether your party character prioritizes Attack or Defense isn't the same as algorithms generating randomized results out of an amalgamation of existing data. conflating them is intentionally misleading.

We need more of this framing of ‘deleting all this data is the same as Nazis burning books’. It really is in our age of text.

I want you to imagine that your baby has been born with mysterious symptoms. A hospital data scientist is trying to figure it out with rare disease data from the CDC. But suddenly that information is deleted. Today’s show. With @jasonkoebler.bsky.social:
Why Trump’s Data Purge is a Digital Book Burning
How reporters tracked the Trump administration's data purges in real time.

With infinite time, a million data centers running a million text generators could produce Hamlet and claim it as original work.

This further muddies the discourse. "Stochastic parrots" remains a good description of what a language model does, when run to extrude synthetic text. It was never meant as a description of all algorithms that process language data.

I am convinced that the dictionary, autocorrect, and predictive text on iOS is being made as bad as possible on purpose to force people to use voice so they can use that data. It's reached the point where the iOS keyboard is unusable.

As odd as it sounds ...

Many Ableists can't conceive that disabled people who depend on Alt text can't magically manifest that Alt text on their own ... As if they believe that we are just asking for Alt text to be annoying or obnoxious to them.

In today's episode of "Save files are hard":

Do I want to keep save files as raw binary data or do I save everything in a text file in JSON format?

The Yes side argued categorically that data centers were not covered under the initiative text.

Several UC law professors disagree. Looking at the text, it’s ambiguous at best and will obviously be litigated.

But the Yes campaign treated the discussion as an affront.

Not canon but this is totally canon. Dr Soong loved his sons almost as much as he loved his own jokes.

I'm probably going to get muted or blocked for this, but as a fellow science communicator, using AI-generated imagery/text is really a bad look all around. It not only steals from your fellow scientists because it's all trained on stolen data, it also makes up fake science.

What makes LLMs work as a business is precisely that all this text is decommodified, free. As they themselves say, they'd have to shut down if they had to pay for their trainging data. Yet all that data is the product of human labor. This cutting edge of capitalism rests on a substrate of communism.

Treat your body like a data centre.

Consume as much water and literature as possible.

Upset local city councils with your existence.

🚨Free data alert!! 🚨 Please share.

Large new dataset of Amazon product reviews, including full text and photos and product characteristics, with individual *reviews labeled as fake reviews*.

I believe this is the first publicly available data of this kind.

So we're looking at how we can tag and add alt text to all 30k of our references (no LLM style).

One idea: a simple tool where YOU click through images, add tags, and optionally write alt text.

We can then take that data, verify it, and use it. We'd also be able to offer some perks as a thank you!
