What did you grow up reading? My dad got me into sci-fi fantasy, and a series I reread over & over was David & Leigh Eddings’ Belgariad Series. I haven’t read them in years and wonder how they would hold up.

I revisited The Belgariad recently. The magic system and banter hold up, but some attitudes are outdated, and the experience is tainted by David Eddings’ past. Can the art be separated from the artist? anthonyaddis.co.uk/2026/02/10/r...

Rereading the belgariad: the good, the bad and the ugly truth - anthonyaddis.co.uk
The Belgariad is one of my favourite fantasy series. But it has problems. Here's the good, bad and ugly of David Eddings' fantasy saga.

it's fine guys, it only took me 12 years to draw a full body reference of a core favorite character from my childhood
(can you guess my rook Hugo is basically based off this guy)

Digital drawing with plain colors of Prince Kheldar, or Silk from The Belgariad and The Malloreon book series. He is a human man with olive skin and shoulder lenght wavy black hair. His face is very angular and sharp, he has a goatee and some stubble. He is posing with one hand holding his chin and the other below his elbow as he yaps, while wearing rogueish armor in hues of green and brown.

The character vs how I drew them
#theBelgariad #Polgara #drawingwhileblack
An image of Polgara the Sorceress from the Belgariad. She's a pale woman with dark hair and a white streak down her left size. She's wearing a european style dress of deep purple with a gold belt and a red and gold overrobe. She has an owl landing on her wrist with a large tree in the background. The image is painted very technically proficiently. A black and white painting of a woman with a stern countenance, curly black hair and a single white streak along her left side. A large owl sits on her shoulder. The woman's face looks a bit like Gina Torres.

I've never understood why Torak, having been terribly disfigured by the Orb of Aldiur, so badly wants it back again. Is it like me & NZ Pineapple Lumps? #TheBelgariad #DavidEddings
