CD#248 #TheCostelloShow #KingOfAmerica 1986. Tier 1 album with an absolute embarrassment of riches in it. His songwriting was really on fire this year. No Attractions for this one: some legendary American session musicians instead. It’s a softer album, full of great ballads. Too many to highlight!

Cover art for The Costello Show album King Of America. A detailed close up portrait of Elvis Costello. He is shown from the beard up, gazing directly at the viewer. He wears an elaborate, heavy royal crown that rests low on his forehead. The bottom edge features a thick band of white fluffy trim. Directly above this is a metallic band set with decorative jewels, including a large, square cut gemstone prominently displayed on the front left. Rows of small white pearls border this section, with ornate arches decorated with additional sparkling gems and dark velvet rising above. He wears thin, round wire rimmed spectacles that frame his eyes. A neatly trimmed dark beard and moustache cover his jaw, chin, and upper lip. The lighting is soft and directional, highlighting the contours of his face and casting subtle shadows beneath his features. The background is a muted, neutral wall that keeps the emphasis entirely on the detailed crown and portrait.
