There’s a rose garden blooming at Bank and Fifth.

A bunch of roses Shu Flora ordered were not fit for sale, so they donated them to the neighbourhood. I smelled them before I saw them. Lovely. 🌹 #ottawa #theglebe

There is a new romance bookstore in my neighborhood. Today was its first day. It has been like this for hours. Clearly I know nothing about this genre or the enthusiasm of its fandom. 😯 #theGlebe #ottawa

Ottawa Race Weekend. Great Glebe Garage Sale. Blackjacks game. Rapids game. Athletico game.

This weekend will be an autopocolipse in downtown Ottawa. Bike. Walk. Bus. If you own a car, do not attempt to use it in the city core. Maybe consider selling it at the GGGS

For a long time, one of the items on my “Glebe bingo” list was “James Taylor song playing at Metro”. The change of ownership killed a good joke. Sad. #theGlebe #ottawa

a (tilted) dash of contemporary whimsey 🥴
the lot first hosted a 3-row, built in 19-aughts
that building disappeared at some point in the latter 20th and the address languished as a vacant for decades until this was built c. 2010

Strathcona Ave doesn't appear in the 1901 Directory.
1908 (our next available volume) lists John T. Hodgkins at #53.
he's described as a "plshr" at Eclipse Manufacturing Co.,
which specialized in steel office furnishings.
so he polished steel filing cabinets.

i'm calling this a postwar walkup — earliest newspaper mentions are for breakins, '54 and '55 🤨
we do find this design set on wide lots with front yards, but at some point, someone realized they'd fit on narrow lots if you turned them sideways, as pictured.

The Globe editorial board agrees it’s time to stop treating on-street parking as a quasi-constitutional right. Transit lanes are key to reducing congestion. They may as well be talking about Bank Street. #otttraffic #ottawa #theglebe
