The reprise of Movin' Right Along (chorus), following Kermit overcoming his brief moment of doubt in the desert hits so hard...

This is fucking cinema 😭

The Muppet Movie is a bit raunchier than you probably remember. Certainly, for a G-rated film, it’s edgy as hell.

Which just goes to show: the whole conceit of rating films is stupid, broken & makes all of us dumber for participating in.

DYK there are 🍆 jokes in TMM? 🤔

Kermit looks so dapper in his little matching blazer and sweater-vest 🤩

Got that dress-shirt collar poppin, too. Top two buttons undone, showing a little bit of green, ready to mix it up on the dance floor.

Every pig's crazy 'bout a sharp-dressed frog.

I'm so happy for Kermit, you guys. He really deserves this 😭

#FilmSky 📽️ #TheMuppetMovie 🧵
"Oh, just look at all this..." "How did a frog make the big time?" We're all frogs, in a way, or feel like it trying to break in. If they're honest, every successful person has pondered to themselves how a frog like them made the big time. That's why this movie is so beautiful and rich. But a child could also derive substantive meaning from the narrative. It's the perfect film.

"We did just what we set out to do..."

It might be the best and most beautiful #film ever made.

The Muppet Movie. And what a movie, too 😭

#FilmSky 📽️ #TheMuppetMovie 🧵
Iconic. I wish my scrub bar would stop fading in and out, but it's kind of impossible to make that happen and still watch the movie in a reasonable amount of time, so fuckin DEAL with it, I guess. Or don't. So. Beautiful. I am moved. I am deeply moved by every thing about this film. What a thoughtful masterpiece.

Kermit keeping his cool under comical duress is one of my favorite #Muppets tropes.

"Uh... are you the guys I was supposed to meet?"

#FilmSky 📽️ #TheMuppetMovie 🧵
Aw, poor Kermie. He'll be all right, though. Not only do I know how it ends, we also saw him alive and well in the first part of the frame story. Remember? He told Sam he hoped this movie had some socially-redeeming value. Well, I think it does, and Kermie's going to be fine.

OMFG I AM DYING 🤣

Miss Piggy's eyes get SO BIG when she's animated and beating the shit out of all Doc Hopper's thugs. Look at those peepers. My gracious.

What a charming film this is 🤩

#FilmSky 📽️ #TheMuppetMovie 🧵
Here, she's breaking out of her bonds, so she's concentrating and kind of forcing, and her snoot crumples up with the effort. It works so well. You know exactly what's going on here. OMG look at her eyes, lol. They've switched them out for a new set, and she looks CRAZED. She's absolutely fucking feral, and I love that about her.

In 1979, I guess you could have your felt dog-puppet tell his new frog friend that he likes to have "a couple of beers before bed" every night in your G-rated movie 🤣

What an era... couldn't do it today! 🙂‍↔️

#FilmSky 📽️ #MovieSky 🎞️ #TheMuppetMovie 🧵
He describes his ideal evening of living alone, and it wraps up with "Have a couple of beers, take myself for a walk and go to bed." LOL! Couldn't say that in G-rated film today. Terrible film, and Benecio Del Toro was barely in it, but he did crack me up a couple of times, like when he was getting arrested, and told the cop he'd had 'a few small beers,' lol. Lol, remember this sketch? One of the best Shane Gillis SNL sketches, and one of my favorite fake ads.

Case in point: cut to moonlit dinner with Kermit, just as she connived (and she looks stunning).

Miss Piggy is a BAD BITCH, and anyone who thinks she's annoying or lame is just scared of strong women with big personalities 😤

#FilmSky 📽️ #TheMuppetMovie 🧵 #TheMuppets
Lol! I was making that point about Miss Piggy going after what she wants and often getting it, and as if to prove my point, the film cut to the moonlit dinner she was proposing a second ago. What an entrance! 🤩 Kermit's such a gentlefrog. He gets up out of his seat to greet Miss Piggy, as you do at a dinner such as this (especially if your date is prone to arriving late and in style, as some of mine have historically been). You get up! It's the thing to do. It ought to feel weird not to, if you have a shred of decency or empathy in you.

"I took the liberty of ordering us some wine. Oh, waiter!"

🤣

This cameo I definitely hadn't forgotten.

Good time to mention; I hope you're reading the #alttext (always). That's arguably where most of the review is...

Steve Martin. What a treasure. And like I said before, he does a lot to elevate this. One gets the sense that nearly everyone they asked said yes, and they aimed high and asked some big names. This is STAR STUDDED, which you kind of want a Muppets movie to be, but which also feels cheap and depressing when the film around it isn't any good. Wow! What a getup. The 70s were a hell of an era. My dad got married in a powder blue bell-bottomed tuxedo. I wish I were kidding. My mom looked great and timeless, and dad looked like he followed the Bee Gees on tour.

Kermit was too happy where he was to be bothered to pursue fame and/or fortune, but when Bernie tells him that, with his talents, he could make millions of people happy, that's what gets him.

That's what Kermit can't pass up 😭

#FilmSky 📽️ #MovieSky 🎞️ #TheMuppetMovie 🧵
"With your gifts, you could make millions of people happy." It's so sweet and good to me that 'wishing to become rich and famous' held no appeal whatsoever for Kermit, but knowing that he could potentially brings millions of people joy gives him serious pause. That means something to him.
