It’s over a century and a half old so it’s using the language of cross dressing but in my read feels deeply queer and trans AND has the benefit of being funny but in contrast to much lit of the period, the transmasc protagonist (who’s also a person of color) is the one typically _making_ the jokes rather than being the butt of them
