#theories
The numbers are looking pretty bad for Republicans. Difficult for them to rely on conspiracy theories around election day voting issues to deny/contest results. We may see more sweeping theories around corrupt machines, hacking, foreign interference... but we haven't seen much on those yet.

Trump held a press conference today, and instead of spreading conspiracy theories and laying the groundwork for contesting elections, he spent his time breathlessly selling his silly reflecting pool project.

Just spitballing here, but we could read stories across history and across cultures to develop theories and then use those theories to offer durable modes of critique

It's game time / Election Day! I'm starting a thread here for our team's rapid election rumor research.

Here's our first rumor of the day, malfunctioning scanners in NY (this is true!) becoming wrapped into "rigged election" conspiracy theories (this is false!). bsky.app/profile/kate...
We have our 1st reports of election machines malfunctioning in Westchester, NY. This is spreading w/ a conspiratorial framing on the right. Very similar to Maricopa 2022. Machines sometimes hiccup. It's not intentional. There are remedies: secure containers for your ballots to be counted later.

you need increasingly elaborate theories to explain why you're so nuts about what is, genuinely, a tiny and relatively powerless minority, and that leads you to cloud cuckoo land

Please, I beg you all, stop using Russian words you don't understand, and please keep your bonkers conspiracy theories off of an internet that is already full of them
I think it's more likely that either 1) she is avoiding some kind of release of kompromat, or 2) she has been bribed or somehow otherwise it is in her financial interest to make this move.

Obvi just a guess, but I'd suspect this is all bourgeois and grotesque but self-interested and semi-rational.

It's too early in anyone's life to be pushing conspiracy theories about men in their 50s with stressful lives having a stroke
Very strange that a healthy 53 year old Democratic Senator who was just speaking out against Trump's illegal war against Iran and calling out their new plot suffers a stroke but 93 year old republican senator Chuck Grassley is just fine
