Umm, what the fuck. "Once something is discovered..." I'm in energy. Thermionics, thermoelectrics, and MHD* were discovered and they DID NOT WORK VERY WELL so we didn't build them. This is like the mercury vapor topping cycle, which is both inefficient and REALLY poisonous.

PCR has been utilized on every corner of this planet (and in LEO on the ISS!), and it's the convenient match up of Mssr. Peltier's observation about thermoelectrics & some fancy enzymes from extremophile bacteria living near ocean volcanos that makes that possible.

HAIL SCIENCE!

I don’t think that’s correct. Some thermoelectrics withdraw water & return it to the water system hotter (withdrawals) and some have cooling towers that evaporate water (consumed water), and some are air cooled (no water). I think this sankey has withdrawals & consumption. Need consumption only.

An example is thermoelectrics, which had like three uses ever. One of them was the Mars rovers, which is how they showed up in The Martian. Basically they're about 5% efficient at turning heat into electricity and cost about $5 a watt. A combined cycle gas turbine is 60% and like $2 a watt. 2/n
