The Rock has responded to claims that WWE was 'very surprised' by his recent video tribute to Benjamin 'PAC' Satterley, which included positive remarks about AEW. In the tribute, The Rock expressed condolences to the Satterley family, WWE colleagues, AEW President Tony Khan, and the wider AEW company, stating that AEW is 'growing into this phenomenal wrestling company.' This statement reportedly prompted WWE insiders to express surprise to Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer, who noted that the wording was specifically brought up by WWE personnel, particularly given Dwayne Johnson's position on the TKO Board of Directors. The Rock addressed the situation on Instagram, stating, 'you’re right brother, and humanity matters to me. I was born into this business and I’ve seen it all, but when one of our own passes away, I don’t care nor do I see 'our competition', I care about the wrestlers and how it affects them. I’ve been there. To me, humanity matters most.' PAC tragically passed away on September 27th at the age of 40, prompting widespread tributes across the wrestling community. The tribute on last week's Dynamite was described as 'brilliant, emotional, poignant, and utterly heartbreaking,' honoring someone who inspired many in his generation and beyond. The Rock's comments reflect a broader sentiment within the wrestling industry about respecting fallen colleagues, transcending corporate rivalries. His response underscores the importance of human connection over business competition in times of loss. The incident highlights the evolving dynamics between WWE and AEW, with Johnson's dual role in both companies adding complexity to the situation. The Rock's emphasis on 'humanity' rather than corporate boundaries has resonated with fans and industry figures alike, reinforcing the idea that professional rivalries should not overshadow mutual respect in the face of tragedy.
