NGC 2244 The Satellite Cluster / NGC 2237 The Rosette Nebula - telescope processed image. NGC 2244 is a young open cluster at the nebula's heart. Its massive, super-hot O-type stars produce intense stellar winds that have carved out the nebula's central hole. NGC 2244 The Satellite Cluster / NGC 2237 The Rosette Nebula - unprocessed image. Spanning 130 light-years, NGC 2237 is a massive stellar nursery. It contains enough gas and dust to form 10,000 Sun-sized stars and glows red due to ionized hydrogen gas.

NGC 2244 Satellite Cluster / NGC 2237 The Rosetta Nebula - telescope processed image. NGC 2244, known as the Satellite Cluster, is the group of super-hot O-type stars at the heart of the Rosette Nebula that use powerful stellar winds to carve out its central hole. NGC 2244 Satellite Cluster / NGC 2237 The Rosetta Nebula - unprocessed image. The Rosette Nebula is a massive star-forming region 5,000 light-years away, spanning 130 light-years across—about five times the area of the full moon in our night sky.
