#thinkingwithDLMBL im trying to understand the "the america that i am," is it separate from the america that naira is? and the america that ashley is?

I think it is questioning whether being American has become more about what we own and consume than who we actually are. #thinkingwithDLMBL

#thinkingwithDLMBL crazy how relevant this is today with flock cameras, with people making so many jokes about them but little to no actual activity about it. so quick to criticize others

Dam, this is a dark thought. Advertisement for anti depressants are pushed heavily at night because these people commonly cant sleep. I mean, I dont even know, the money making machine truly never stops for anyone. #thinkingwithDLMBL

The repetition of “fear” makes the emotion feel like it is spreading everywhere. I especially like how “foreign” connects the fear of disease with the fear of outsider. #thinkingwithDLMBL

What struck me was how Rankine talks about just sitting and listening to her sister's sadness instead of trying to help her after losing her children and husband. #thinkingwithDLMBL

I like how she randomly lists every possible thing she could do with the pills. It feels like her brain is going everywhere except actually making a decision. #thinkingwithDLMBL

Understanding death logically is completely different from accepting it emotionally. #thinkingwithDLMBL

This is sad. I could never picture New York without light, it is the city that never sleeps. It would not feel or look the same.

the images in this book interrupt the reading in a way that regular paragraphs don't. the image doesn't necessarily explain anything, which somehow makes me think about it longer. #thinkingwithDLMBL

I noticed how often the television appears in this book. It seems like the narrator uses it to feel connected to the world, but it also reminds her of death and sadness.

The smiling woman in the medicine ad next to all those warnings is so weird when u actually think abt it. We see stuff like this all the time and dont even question it. #thinkingwithDLMBL

The beginning of this book made me think about how differently people understand death as they get older. It's strange how something we all experience can still be so hard to understand.

I looked at the picture before I even read the paragraph and it already felt overwhelming. Everything is destroyed and hard to make sense of, which kinda matches the way shes writing abt grief too. #thinkingwithDLMBL
