We used to daisychain the hubs together with thinnet because of the 3-4-5 rule and run twisted pair out to desks because users can’t be trusted not to kick thinnet under their desks apart.

need to clear up some confusion, good Terminator is 50 ohms and bad Terminator is less than 10 ohms, it's bad because you get reflectance which then causes your thinnet card to see data ghosts
i have neither seen nor read HILLBILLY ELEGY and have just this moment learned that the whole "good terminator vs bad terminator" thing isn't some bit of hill wisdom, it's about the TERMINATOR franchise starring arnold schwarzenegger

Ah, yes. I have “fond” memories of running coax through the drop ceiling of my parents’ dental office. Twice! Once with thinnet and the second time with a thicknet trunk and vampire taps!

House I looked at in 1994 was "wired for Ethernet".
And ok, it was just a foot-long thinnet coax between the walls of two adjacent rooms, but it had nice connector plates and all :-)

This reminds me of days moving ISA cards in slots and fiddling with IRQ interrupts. SoundBlaster AWE32 and BNC thinnet network cards were always “either or, but not both”. 🤣

We were still using 10BASE2 coax (shielded) Thinnet at the old Ivy Rd. CDL into the 00s due to RFI concerns.

Yep. Even if you had recabled offices to twisted pair, your building backbone might still be 10base-2. I still had this at a job I left in 2003, and other departments on campus knew to save their old HP thinnet hubs for me because I needed a good supply of spares as ports got taken out by lightning.

I also downloaded it off an FTP site and the company I worked for was on the internet and most of the machines in dev were on thinnet. I don't remember ever seeing it actually on floppy. I do still have it on a burned CD I made at the time as I was the guy mastering install CD's for the company.

One of my earliest experiences from the network admin side of this is when a user claimed the network in his office was "broken", wouldn't say how, and when I actually looked he had turned the thinnet bus (this was >20 years ago) into a tree, so everything on that drop was getting self-collisions.

Back in 1999 I worked in the information systems department for a large school district. Printers were the bane of our existence lol. I feel sick thinking about all of the network printers on thinnet and Novell NetWare. Also, the printers themselves were just pieces of shit.
