#sentenceoftheday #booksky #amreading #ThisIsWheretheSerpentLives #DaniyalMueenuddin I'm on the final story. I'm guessing this one's going to kill me: "They pushed six hrs up thru the Punjab toward the mountains, speeding along on the new Korean-built motorway, stopping just once, for fuel."

I’ve just had the strange experience of writing a review with lots of criticism of a book which I actually loved.

Not sure what that says about me, but here's what I said about it.

#amreading #ThisIsWheretheSerpentLives #novellas #booksky 4 novellas abt life in Pakistan in the late 20th c. Novella # 1, "The Golden Boy" is abt the rise & rise of Bayazid, a child abandoned on the streets of Rawalpindi, taken in by the kindly owner of a tea stall, and reads much like a fable.

#amreading #DaniyalMueenuddin #ThisIsWheretheSerpentLives #booksky I'm on the final story. It turns out this book is not abt the corrupt Masters but abt the servant who's internalized the corruption 2 such a degree that he identifies more w/ the Master than w/ people from his own class. DEVASTATING.
