Day in Night
(Ode to Night in Day)

Even in great birth
It is cradled in the dark
Shedding its own light.

A dark, dramatic portrait of a Black figure shrouded in shadow, lifting a golden cloth to reveal a radiant, star-filled universe within. The celestial light bursts forth from beneath the fabric, illuminating the subject against a cosmic backdrop. This is an artistic inversion of Thomas Blackshear II's Night in Day, titled Day in Night, symbolizing emergence, revelation, and the cosmic nature of identity. A luminous portrait of a Black man against a deep blue background, his face transformed into a radiant galaxy of stars and nebulae. He lifts a golden cloth from his chest, revealing a brilliant celestial light within, symbolizing divine inner light and cosmic identity. The painting's warm golden tones contrast with the cool cosmic blues, creating a powerful spiritual metaphor about the universe residing within Black identity.
