okay this was annoying but I just did a test run of imaging a hfs partition over SCSI with TinyCore Linux with the optional SCSI module loaded, and it works fine, meaning I should be able to use this to image the PowerMac 6100 in the archive tomorrow

i know they have it easy now , back before we had to ssh the school computers to give use a download of tinycore

I thought I'd test some Linux distros on my Vortex86 box tonight, the latest TinyCore 15 (CorePlus) works a treat. A very versatile system, that can run 933Mhz down to 30Mhz (great for MS-DOS). Usually these boxes are used for automation, or in the case of mine an internet radio.

I thought I'd test some Linux distros on my Vortex86 box tonight, the latest TinyCore 15 (CorePlus) works a treat. A very versatile system, that can run 933Mhz down to 30Mhz (great for MS-DOS). Usually these boxes are used for automation, or in the case of mine an internet radio.

for what it’s worth, this is a VIA EPIA-M with a 800mhz cpu, probably roughly equivalent to a Celeron 500mhz, and 512mb of RAM. TinyCore works *great* on this, even though it’s a wildly slow machine.

Maybe i should get one of those acer netbooks and install puppy or tinycore on it. An 8088 running Ms dos 6.22 is nice but i miss python 3, a touchpad, a good IDE, standard key shortcuts, fast graphics, general OS speed, a good keyboard..

okay so i actually ended up buying one and putting linux on it, specifically antix because i just can't tolerate puppy linux or tinycore. don't care if they'd perform better on something as old and underpowered as this

For really old stuff there’s TinyCore. It’s not what I would call “general purpose” but it can run where larger distros simply don’t fit.
I've finished installing Win98 and installed an extra stick of RAM, before I get the drivers sorted, I thought I'd give a few live CDs a go - it seems to love everything I've thrown at it.
TinyCore (Plus) Linux is a dream on this, runs really well!

From 4mb (then 12mb) of RAM on my first build to 32gb (Thinkpad gifted by employer) Slackware has been there over 30 years. FreeBSD is similarly resource efficient. Might take a look at this TinyCore of which you speak...
