Saturday morning at Tipsoo Lake, I waited for alpenglow on Mount Rainier. The light started faint, then warm golden-red tones appeared on the summit, with pink reflected in the still water.

A peaceful morning, well worth the early start. 🏔️📷

Mount Rainier’s snowy summit glows with peach-colored sunrise light, mirrored in the still water of Tipsoo Lake. Tall, dark evergreens frame the snowy mountain beneath a pale blue sky, with a grassy shoreline between mountain and reflection. The scene feels peaceful and still.

It’s been a couple of years since I made it down to Mount Rainier National Park, and I wanted to do so before they closed the highway on the east side...

Color photo. At the bottom, short trees with leaves of blazing orange and red. Beyond them are tall green pines. Receding into the distance is a valley with pine covered slopes. At the end of the valley is Mount Rainier, its peak covered in snow and a lenticular cloud hovers over it.

Just because you are at #mtrainiernationalpark doesn’t mean every photo needs to have #tahoma in it. What are some of your favorite place at #MtRainier that aren’t Mt Rainier? These are from along the Stevens Canyon Road and #tipsoolake (look at those reflections!). #cascades

Black and white photo. Tipsoo Lake, seen from the shore, surrounded by a thin layer of snow, from which short grass pokes through in many places. The far shore is lined with tall dark evergreens. Beyond, on the right, snow-capped Mount Rainier rises above the trees. Above it are streaks of wispy cloud. On the left, the sky is dominated by forming lenticular clouds, their edges glowing from the unseen sun behind them. The trees, mountain and clouds are reflected in the lake, only slightly disturbed by shallow ripples.

Happy Halloween!

I took this shot up at Tipsoo Lake the other week and, as soon as I did, I knew it would be the photo I'd post today.

Black and white photo. In the top half of the frame there is a snowy slope, dotted with small dark trees, surrounded by dark trees on all sides. In the middle of this snow field is a tall cluster of dark trees. The bottom half of the frame is water, in which the top half is mirrored.
