Interesting. I feel pretty much the same way. The comedy in Moon River hits me as sometimes too broad, the misfortunes too relentless-- like the writers are trying to make me pity the characters rather than giving them depth. Just started TMBT and am intrigued.

James, it’s interesting to me that you describe TMBT as “natural.” To me the whole thing feels so fake I have to keep reminding myself “it’s like a play, it’s okay to be fake, that’s just this genre.” To be fair, MR gave the same feeling.

But as Tina says, a lot of this comes down to personal taste or personal reactions
I didn’t feel excited when the body-swap happened in MR - it felt almost banal
Whereas when it happened in TMBT I was genuinely excited to see how they would adapt & what would happen - so it made me want to watch 👍

I'll see how it goes in the further. I agree was perhaps sometimes a little over the top but I could get more attached with both leads and their passion and suffering like that.
A part where I clearly prefer in TMBT is the portrayal of the second leads. I can much better relate to them than in MR.

I wanna read more Usagi too (have a few trades & back issues). That's a big one for lots of 80s/90s kids due to the TMBT cartoon tho.

yeah my mom can't stop praising KSJ and KTH and tbh I'm losing interest in TMBT (watched up to ep 7), so might drop and marathon Moon River lol

I didn’t mean to suggest TMBT is intended to be a naturalistic slice of life like those shows! - I only meant that the characters feel believable within their universe
