It seems that a lot of people in media encountered that 1969 tobacco company memo saying "doubt is our product" and decided it was a good motto to live by rather than a damning admission from a propagandist who was getting paid to kill people.

I wish people would stop describing things that are indisputably provable as a matter of fact as "controversial." People not liking a fact doesn't mean the fact is controversial. Reality is not malleable around our beliefs and it shouldn't be. We need to stop acting like it is.

I’m not prudish about many things but I do think it sucks ass for AEW to have a tobacco product as a major event sponsor

Now, when a tobacco company doesn't like an FDA regulation, it can just find some retailer in Texas—even a gas station that ostensibly wants to sell their product—then sue within the 5th Circuit, whose conservatives hate tobacco regulations. Totally undoes Congress' careful forum limitations.

We saw it with big tobacco, we saw it with the fossil fuels industry. When their own internal research showed the harm from their product, the defunded the research and attacked independent researchers coming to the very same conclusions.

Really looking forward to cigarette packs reading "Surgeon General's Warning: This product may be harmful unless you have looked the tobacco farmer in the eyes, touched his tobacco leaves, and made an informed decision as to whether you feel safe smoking tobacco from his farm."
“When it comes to .. raw milk, I want to be free to form a relationship with a local farmer, look him in the eyes, pet his cow, and then decide if I feel safe to drink the milk from his farm.”

The tobacco companies told me that smoking was part of a healthy breakfast. Who would know the product better than them?

The tobacco industry continues to sell death & destruction by using flavors, packaging & advertising. Is there any “safe” product or consumption method? How does tobacco use harm your body?

Right… because the real problem was that big tobacco wasn’t “clear about risks” — not that they were selling an addictive product that harmed the health of both users and non-users.

British private education is a product with price inelasticity that rivals tobacco.

Back in 70s, the Tobacco Industry realized that science was completely against them. So, they decided to go to war against science. Not just funding pro-tobacco "studies", but climate denial and anything else that was against scientific consensus.

We ran the National Youth Tobacco Survey, which is how we know that current tobacco use among HS students has declined dramatically over the last decade to 10.1% (cigarette smoking is at 1.7%!).. and how we know e-cigarettes the most common product used by kids. It’s how we monitor trends.

$216m — Cabinet's contingency for Casey Costello's 50% heated-tobacco tax cut — could have funded school lunches at Labour's level for two years, or kept Kāhui Ako running instead of scrapping it. Cabinet's own paper admits consumers may see none of the tobacco benefit. #nzpol

I don’t get it. If selling a dangerous product that kills people is a justification for military strikes, shouldn’t Trump also be going after American tobacco and alcohol companies? Oh yeah, and gun companies?
