Tom Hanks' David S. Pumpkins is interrupted by James Austin Johnson's Donald Trump in his SNL return.

After a pretty weak cold open that was crashed by Tom Hanks’ David S. Pumpkins, Donald Trump (who admitted he “might be gay”) and his MAGA minion Nicki Minaj, and an amusing opening monologue where host Inde Navarrette took a swipe at Shane Gillis, the Halloween edition of “Saturday Night Live” aired a surprisingly fun […]

Tom Hanks returned to “Saturday Night Live” on Halloween night to revive his lounge-y David S. Pumpkins character in a cold open that skewered President Trump’s increasingly bizarre comments on the stump and his fixation with men’s physiques. Following a Trump-centric cold open that featured the return of Tom Hanks’ David S. Pumpkins, “Saturday Night Live” host Inde Navarrette took the stage at Studio 8H for her first opening monologue. It was a fitting choice to have the star of the year’s breakout horror hit “Obsession” (and the internet’s apparent obsession) make her […]

Saturday Night Live's 52nd season premiere featured a revival of the David S. Pumpkins sketch, with Tom Hanks reprising his role as the orange-suited character alongside former cast member Bobby Moynihan. The sketch, which began in 2016, saw President Donald Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) interrupting the scene, leading to a series of satirical exchanges. Trump's character mocked Hanks' portrayal of David S. Pumpkins, comparing their shared traits of being 'very loud, very orange, and very frankly annoying.' The sketch also included a humorous reference to Trump's recent comments about men's bodies, with the fictional Trump admiring Hanks' 'rear end' and joking about 'gay dementia.' Additionally, the cold open parodied the suggestion that rapper Nicki Minaj could become the next White House press secretary and included references to Trump's unusual vocalizations during midterm rally speeches. Former White House press secretary Katie Zacharia, played by Veronika Slowikowska, made a brief appearance but was quickly dismissed by Trump for failing to deliver the closing lines. The sketch, which has become a recurring feature on SNL, continues to blend political satire with absurdist humor, highlighting the show's ability to address current events through comedic storytelling. The segment, while bizarre, reflects SNL's tradition of using celebrity cameos and exaggerated character portrayals to comment on contemporary political figures and events.
