This is a seriously tough task. At this moment I’d say:
McGahern: That they may face the rising sun
Patrick McGill: Children of the Dead End
Anne Enright: The Green Road
Seamus Deane: Reading in the Dark
Colm Toibín: Nora Webster

But that would be different in an hour’s time 🤷🏼‍♀️

Killer lineup spanning Stoker, Wilde, Joyce, and McGahern. Dorian Gray forever vibes and Children of the Dead End is a gritty gem. #top5irishnovels #BookSky

While picking up Claire Keegan's Small Things Like These, I enquired whether the shop had Cormac Mac Raois' Giltspur books in stock, only to discover that they've apparently been out of print for 30 years! What an absolute crime. Looks like reading them to the wee lad might involve a bit of a quest!
