No tortillion? No problem, nothing to it but create one in office space

"Never Trust A Smiling DracoLich" Drew this during a class I had under the artist: Ed Beard Jr. This was done on a pretty big piece of paper (24X18ish) with three pencils (b, 5b, and 6b), a tortillion, a kneaded eraser, sand paper, and patience.

Today marks one year since I drew this so I’m cross posting here. Still makes me cackle.

RIP Muffin. You were the victim to angy NHS.

Made with Derwent Graphic pencils 3H, B, 4B, and 6B and a 2 tortillion

It was fun trying something a little different by bringing out the tortillion for this pencil sketch.

More WIP

I was very surprised with this Faber Castell pencil. It's only 2B but the graphite is very dark can be layered.

I used cotton bud as substitute for tortillion/pencil blender stump.

Here are the drawings from that evening, as well as a chat about learning to use a tortillion. It's a free patreon post (they pretty much all are free, because fuck it).

I love grabbing a tortillion, getting it all dirty and making the hair and shadows.

My favorite part!!

So I managed to pick up a pack of charcoal and graphite powder by soho and so far it’s been super smooth and actually pretty easy to get dark (though dusty)

How do you typically apply it? Currently using a tortillion and I got “sofft” pastel sponge tools and it’s quite nice

I had some scoring from the other side of the page that caused those white streaks the pencil wasn't quite covering. Remembered I had a blending stump/tortillion & had to take a picture of the difference it made ToT
