I think it's a very important work for a list like this because it is one of the only tv shows that is really about television. Like there are other shows "about TV shows" in a meta sense (30 rock, larry sanders show, etc) but TPTR is the only one that really reckons with it as a medium

100% on Dern - she's really a co-author of the movie, from what I've read about the making. The length and the bittiness/ tangents/ etc now look a bit like a trial run for TPTR - a length and canvas to properly let his vibe manifest itself. Maybe movies were, oddly, the wrong medium for him vs. TV.

When TPTR was first released and everybody was experiencing it spoiler-free, episode-by-episode, with so much anticipation + so many expectations, it is amazing how long it took some of us to realize that Dougie was going to be the main plotline and not a short diversion.

aw fuck goddamn it. seeing twin peaks and fwwm when i was a kid changed my fuckin life. tptr is one of the great twenty first century films to date, period. cant think of a filmmaker in my quarter century of life who influenced so many artists i loved.

There were audio cues that jumped out at me in the theater that I barely even noticed in multiple viewings of it on TV and tablet with ear buds.
My overall feeling of there not being enough musical underscore in TPTR was not something I felt at the Metrograph viewing.
