i had a guy in a discord (that i left) say that the only valid use for high speed rail was between cities and airports, nothing else would work in america.

Hard same, but here in Montreal. It burned into my brain so much I wrote a GN about it. We worked hard to be period-correct on all the early-2000s train interiors and station designs, and we still got pedantic letters from readers pointing out things we'd missed #trainguys
