In 'Cloudgazer' MC Vela crosses a small part of the galaxy. Switching ships and speeds a few times. Stopping at various places for days or months at a time. There is a whole galaxy out there but most citizens know only a few places, much like citydwellers know the trainstops of their commute + X.

you've seen the boy at three of your trainstops, now. one of which was in another state. he always seems to appear in similar rooms. dimly-lit lamp light, difficult to see him otherwise. a warm smile and the tell-tale galaxies you can glimpse in his peepers. his tellings have sustained your travels.

Just had a look on google maps at the north end of Khandallah, and gosh that is a network that probably should have invested in a few trainstops at signals. The distance from the departure signal to the catchpoints would have provided a lot of emergency braking distance...

Something to consider with airport planning (comes up with decisions to locate trainstops next to them), is that the relatively small number of people who travel by air frequently vastly overestimate how many people benefit from things that make air travel convenient.
