Really enjoyable second visit for the Winter Bird Survey on my @bbs-birds.bsky.social square in Thetford Forest. First transect was packed with Blackbirds, Redwings and many Crossbills over. Second transect through the coniferous forest was much quieter, mainly Coal Tits!

Wow! What a transect count...
Out at Southbourne today, and on the transect there was an total count of 153 Clouded Yellows.
There were more outside the transect walk.
It's the most we've had in a single count since we started recording in 2022.
Simply amazing.
Also 3rd brood Small Copper, Whites and C'mon Blue.

When you've walked 4.5 miles on a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker transect without luck, then find a male in (litterally!) the last 30ft. WIN!

675 individuals counted, including 276 meadow browns, and 158 Gatekeepers.

A 5 mile transect walked the length of my island home yesterday was surprisingly productive for @wildflowerhour.bsky.social material - though no shocks until the very last, a Sea Pink running extraordinarily late in the year.

Our last butterfly transect survey of the year at Horseshoe Plantation/ Belle Toute this afternoon. A total of six species and 30 individuals seen. Biggest surprise was seeing a Chalkhill blue, seems quite late in the season for it.

City planners: there's a secret 2nd half to the urban transect that goes to 12!

In planning, the transect is used to create form-based zoning that have a compact mix of homes, jobs, & public space. Different densities from rural to urban are labeled T1 to T6. I've added T7 to T12 😂🏙️.
