Fish and Game reports low one‑year survival after Kachemak Bay deer translocations
Alaska Department of Fish and Game updated the advisory board on mule-deer translocations to the southern Kachemak Bay area: 19 deer moved last year with only five surviving a year later; this year crews released nine animals (2 bucks, 7 does) after removing one for disease concerns.

Lamb, Peterson & Patel investigated the translocation of individual genes onto different chromosomes in metazoans, concluding that such translocations involved either individual genes or else short sections of DNA, and occurred very infrequently.

Genomic rearrangements define a distinct biological state in neuroblastoma
Neuroblastoma is a heterogeneous pediatric cancer whose behavior is shaped by diverse genomic alterations. While previous genomic studies have identified recurrent drivers and mutational processes, whether large-scale genome architecture actively contributes to defining tumor states has not yet been fully investigated. How translocations and inversions integrate somatic instability, transcriptional programs and inherited susceptibility in neuroblastoma has not been systematically explored. Here,...

In rare cases, variants are more complex, e.g. inversions, translocations etc. These variants are more difficult to detect. Authors here report one such case, involving a 14 year old Duchenne patients, who was diagnosed because of gait abnormalities, high CK and 'presenting like DMD'

This is a great example of where "back office" staff at DOC have been cut to the bone, meaning Wildlife Act permits for lizard translocations are taking 4+ months to process before works can begin.
3 years on the job and he has learned nothing.

Still proudly strutting about as if he is still the "CEO of a business unit in Chicago".

Spouting corporatese and proclaiming how others can do stuff better (this week it's Israelis and Canadians, last week it was the Irish and Singaporeans).

Colorado's Decision to Suspend Wolf Killings Is Welcome but Long Overdue, Conservation Group Says
Contacts: Marilu C. Flores ([email protected]); Susan Holmes, ([email protected]) (202) 329-1553 DENVER, CO — October 13, 2026 — The Endangered Species Coalition welcomes Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s shift to a more conservative, case-by-case approach to lethal wolf removals following livestock conflicts. The announcement follows growing concerns about wolf deaths, disease detection, and the Trump administration’s decision to block additional wolf translocations in 2025. “The decision to treat the success of the Colorado Wolf Restoration program with the appropriate sense of urgency is welcome,” said Ryan Sedgeley, Southern Rockies Representative for the Endangered Species Coalition. “Along with the threats the program has faced in Colorado, including poaching, wolves killed by CPW, and now disease, the Trump Administration has launched an all-out attack on wolves which threatens the recovery of the species.” While CPW’s shift is encouraging, the Coalition maintains that a conservative approach should have been in place from the beginning. The agency must go further and implement a moratorium on all lethal wolf control. Recent killings of yearling wolves by CPW, without establishing that those individual animals were responsible for livestock losses, underscore the need for change. Retaliatory killing is not a scientifically sound strategy for preventing future conflicts...

Karyotypes also evolve faster in plants, likely due to their more frequent whole-genome duplications and higher transposable element abundance. Translocations appear more common in plants, while fissions/fusions and inversions look broadly similar across kingdoms.
