Well the "intersection of transphobia and misogyny" is kind of a pop-etymology of the term that doesn't even use the actual definition in "Whipping Girl".
It doesn't make sense either, because it's not an intersection of two things. It's not like transphobia can be neatly separated from misogyny.

While I'm in the UK and it's only my personal experience I find transphobia is a top down thing. Away from state and media transphobia 99.9% of people are decent.
My local shops are a Muslim monopoly. They all treat me like a lady and are very nice to me.

And that's partially because gender anxiety, which transphobia is partly founded on, is at the heart of a lot of fascist projects. So the transphobia does become a gateway drug of sorts. It's used to habituate people to a *lot* of illiberal ideas.
