Om transkaraktärer i media, och hur vi speglar oss i dem

Hey, hey! Kyra Kyle here. Today, our classic three lists of three post returns. We haven’t done one of these in almost two years. The last one took a lot out of me, and I wanted to retire the format for a while. But it’s back. Three lists of three posts allow Geekly to explore a topic from multiple angles, maybe even some angles we would seldom cover in a solo post. Today’s topic is transgender representation in media. Geekly started an ongoing series of transgender representation in media. Typically, that series follows television (occasionally) and movies, but let’s discuss other media.

Denning 4 of 5 stars David’s life doesn’t change much after adopting a rescue dog — until his new pup reconnects with an old friend at the park, leading David to meet the dog’s owner, Josh. Josh lives a split life: at work he’s River, a trans adult‑industry performer and cameraman; off the clock he’s just Josh, a new dog dad trying to find balance. What begins as dog‑park hangouts turns into friendship, then something deeper. To make it work, Josh has to trust that David knows what he wants — and that Josh’s career won’t scare him away. The undeniable connection and attraction between David and Josh shines from the start, helped along beautifully by the easy friendship between their dogs. What really stood out, though, was how much emotional intelligence both men needed to navigate the people around them — and how well they rose to that challenge. I especially loved the way David handled Josh’s identity as a trans man, asking the right questions with care, respect, and genuine curiosity, both for everyday life and for intimacy. It made their growing bond feel thoughtful and grounded. The story is full of emotions, feelings, and warmth, and watching them build something real together was incredibly satisfying. A tender, heartfelt romance with depth and compassion. This was an MM story with mature content. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0G2CYQ1NM".

Happy Monday, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here with another installment of transgender representation in media. Today's subject is Jules from Euphoria. Yes! I moved our previously scheduled autism representation to late June to take advantage of Euphoria season three's upcoming April 12, 2026, release date. Woo hoo! We're getting a third season soon. I binged Euphoria seasons one and two the past month. It got difficult. While Euphoria is an amazing show (great direction, acting, and writing), it tackles heavy subjects. Seriously, Euphoria holds back few punches. Jules's storyline, despite being compelling, can be a rough watch.

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here. Today, we continue our deep dive series on transgender representation in media. Dead End: Paranormal Park was our last deep dive in this series. We're in the middle of the holidays, so I figured we'd cover a movie instead of a series. Nimona began as a 2015 graphic novel of the same name. Nimona highlights queer themes and fluidity of identity and how they oppose and subvert traditional controlling institutions and exclusionary systems. Wow! That sounded clinical. On a personal note, I identify as gender queer, something akin to nonbinary, so I can see myself in…

Hey, hey, Geekly Gang! Kyra Kyle here. As promised, this post is the companion piece to our Dead End: Paranormal Park Autism Representation post earlier today. Dead End: Paranormal Park is unique in that it has two main characters, one an autistic Pakistani-American girl, and the other a transgender Jewish-American boy, so we're writing two posts about the same Netflix show. This is great news for me. If you didn't catch our previous post, I'm a late-diagnosed autistic person and ADHDer, but I'm also trans and gender queer. Let's dig into both sides of…
