#trawlerban
Proud #greatblack-backedgull showing off its catch of #plaice but ignored by all at #Ovingdeanbeach except yours truly as these birds always impress me.
Increases in these large gulls among others + many egrets herons + Grey seal feeding along this stretch of shore indicates #trawlerban is working 👏

Many hunters along #UndercliffPath east of #Brighton at low tide today which is a good sign that even this part of #underwaterSussex is beginning to thrive again after the #TrawlerBan just 4 years ago. Without good "pickings" 8 #LittleEgret, 1 #GreyHeron & 2 #GreySeal would not be there!

This MUST be banned in all MPAs!!
Only less than 4 years after the #TrawlerBan along the #SussexCoast marine life from Kelp to Dolphin is fast returning to our waters benefitting everyone, even local fishermen! It's an absolute no-brainer to ban this destructive & wasteful way of sea harvesting!
Imagine if the equivalent were happening on land, with private operators vacuuming vast numbers of wild birds, mammals, etc, out of nominally protected areas like national parks to line their own pockets.

That's exactly what is being permitted in so-called Marine Protected Areas.
Marine 'protected' Areas in Europe really are a scam

Great to observe four individuals of #GreySeal accompanied by many #gulls feeding just beyond the surfing waves as tide fell towards low this afternoon along the short stretch of #undercliffpath between #ovingdeanbeach & #brightonmarina.
This means no-brainer #trawlerban is working really well 😊

2021 #TrawlerBan is in place in Sussex due to Eric Smith, who as free diver since young boy, noticed the devastating damage bottom trawling did, ripping up whole kelp forests & crushing vast acreage of marine life. Started campaign 25 yrs ago w/ some help form us we now have the ban! Don't give up!
