"The gas stations better obey our price controls" says the Treasury Secretary of the Free Markets Party
Bessent: "We're going to be watching the gas stations, because they raised prices very quickly when the crude oil prices went up. We hope they will bring them down just as quickly as crude oil prices have come down."

Guys. If Elon Musk controls communications with the entire civil service, & he controls the payment systems of the US Treasury, he’s quite a long ways in to running a coup.
If Elon Musk controls communications with the entire civil service, that means Trump does not. So doesn’t that mean mean Musk has just perpetrated a partial coup? Trump controls the military & possibly the Foreign Service, but Musk controls the Civil Service.
Trump doesn’t know most of what his administration (eg, Musk) is doing until he hears that people are pissed & it makes him look bad.

Thing is, how does he get rid of Musk? He’s given Musk access to emails for the entire Civil Service. Trump can’t give orders to the government unless Musk allows it

Yeah, “whoever controls the treasury controls the government” is such an unheard of concept that only a genius could think of that it was the first fucking thing Henry I did in 1100 after his brother William II Rufus died

Trump is extorting $10 billion from the Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service he controls through his appointees in the most massively corrupt shakedown in US history.

It will barely make the mainstream news.

A future Dem president must steal a page from DOGE's book and imemediately seize physical control over the Treasury payments system and GSA (controls keys to the doors of federal facilities) because there's going to be Disagreements about whether Dems are allowed to run things even after they win
there must not be burrowed Trumpists. the purge must begin on day 1

As an auditor, this is an internal controls nightmare. There is absolutely no way the Treasury would pass an audit now.

very curious to see what the judge whose order controls DOGE treasury system access thinks about this series of events
February 7, 2025 at 8:28 PM
It's important to note that this is illegal, but it's ALSO important to recognize that it doesn't matter when a lawless executive branch physically controls the U.S. Treasury

EXCLUSIVE: The Bureau of the Fiscal Service is a sleepy part of the Treasury Department. It’s also where, sources say, a 25-year-old engineer tied to Elon Musk has admin privileges over the code that controls Social Security payments, tax returns, and more.

🚨 The US Treasury is not playing games with sanctions on Putin.
Putin's attempt to evade sanctions by transferring his Lukoil assets to Swiss-based Gunvor, which he also controls, will fail.

Musk is tearing up the Treasury trying to get at the payment controls. He wants access to the framework that controls trillions of dollars... access that's only ever given to a mere handful of career staffers.
Billionaire grifters are about to dismantle your government. So instead of your tax dollars going to your Medicare or your Medicaid or your affordable care act or to veterans benefits or your social security - it will go to THEM in the form of tax cuts for the wealthy.

I keep gaming this out. If trump refuses to comply with a court order, the court can’t hold him in contempt, can they? But perhaps those agency heads? Or the person who controls the money at Treasury?
February 4, 2025 at 4:58 AM
Musk is a huge dipshit but he understood his project from the beginning and immediately seized GSA (which controls the physical buildings) and the Treasury payments system which are the two things I'd seize first if I were doing a coup
March 18, 2025 at 2:41 AM
Just to be clear, regardless of laws, the Trump White House physically controls the U.S. Treasury and appointees inside the department can distribute funds wherever and however they want. Neither Congress nor the Supreme Court can stop any of this.

Angela Rayner, secretary of state for Housing, Communities and Local Government, has said no to rent controls.

That means saying no to a policy that saves renters up to £2,400 a year and saves the Treasury £12 billion on housing benefit.

We'll keep fighting to bring in rent controls.

Technically the department of treasury controls the purse, congress was supposed to say how its spent but Bessent has the accounts and passwords

This is a scandal.

Elon Musk gave a self-described "racist" and eugenicist access to a system that controls all financial payments from the U.S. Treasury. That system also contains the personal information including Social Security info of every American. 1/
I linked DOGE staffer Marko Elez to a deleted X account that advocated repealing the Civil Rights Act, backed a “eugenic immigration policy,” and wrote, “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity."

He just resigned. www.wsj.com/tech/doge-st...

Allowing a "vendor" (Musk) to have access to your "accounts payable" systems (the Treasury) flies in the face of every audit principle having to do with segregation of duties, internal controls, and data security. This wouldn't fly at any publicly traded company and would never pass an audit.

Before Trump took office, Treasury and State regularly targeted hundreds of war profiteers across the globe who tried to undercut the impact of U.S. sanctions and export controls.

Now, the President is throwing away leverage that could've helped achieve a just peace.

Russia: Putin immediately aborted his plan to shuffle paperwork to evade US sanctions on his foreign assets through ownership transfer from Lukoil to Swiss-based Gunvor. He controls both entities.
US Treasury should sanction all of his foreign assets, starting with Gunvor.

Somehow missed this.

The Pizzagate guy is now advising the Treasury Secretary of the biggest economy on earth. Oh, and he's also advising the guy controls the most powerful military in human history.

Really puts our we-are-truly-fuck-edness into proper perspective.
